In this presentation Dr. Sonja Kitanovska-Kimovska will talk about why finding the right translator helps get the best value for money.

She will describe what translation entails and what competences are required of the translator.

Then, she will talk about what clients need as opposed to what they pay for and how that has affected translators and the translation market in Macedonia, in particular. Examples of translation projects in Macedonia will be presented. Price has been the main criterion for translator selection in government-funded projects and the resulting translations have produced almost no value for money. These practices may be illustrative of practices on the global market too.

She will then focus on indicators that clients can use to help them find the right translator. The role professional translator associations can play to that end will also be discussed.
